Cara includes messages of kindness and loving yourself throughout her songs. The music of Cara is directly from her struggle with mental illness, insomnia and other health issues. According to Reuters' interview, she has said that her album was half turbulent and half-perfected. She describes her growth by therapy and is adamant about encouraging others to seek help when necessary. Alessia Cara was born to Italian parents on July 11th, 1996. Her first guitar was purchased by her parents when she was 10, which ignited her passion for music. At 13 years old, she began covering her favorite songs via YouTube a major media platform in order to demonstrate to the world that she possessed the talent skills and determination to develop into a professional singer. Sweater Weather is one of these covers which led to her being discovered by EP Entertainment. This record label allowed her create her own songs.
